- When you order hatching eggs from us, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our Hatching Egg Policies.
Purchasing hatching eggs is a great way to add heritage turkeys to your flock. Not to mention, hatching your own eggs is always a fun and exciting process!
Our turkey eggs will hatch Bourbon Red poults, or on rare occasions, Rusty Slate poults. Our eggs are collected from a Bourbon Red tom over Bourbon Red and Self Blue.
To ensure you receive the freshest and most viable eggs, we will collect them and arrange to pick up or deliver when your quantity is complete. We only ship eggs on Monday and Tuesday. Hatching eggs are available seasonally.
We include extra eggs on all orders, but these extras may be Farmer's Choice and not the breed you ordered.
Hatching Egg Storage, Handling, & Incubating
Hatching eggs should be placed in an incubator or under a broody hen as soon as possible. After fourteen days, the hatch rate of an egg begins to rapidly decline.
Until placed in an incubator or under a broody hen, keep your eggs with the air cell upright (large end of the egg), at temperatures between 50 and 60 degrees and 75 percent humidity to delay development without sacrificing the viability of the embryos.
For local pickup, hatching eggs are packed in clean egg cartons with the air cell upright. As pulp egg cartons are impossible to sanitize, we only use new egg cartons to keep your eggs free of contamination.
For shipping, hatching eggs are packed using pulp fiber egg trays and micro mini flake pine bedding in Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes. As pulp egg cartons are impossible to sanitize, we only use new egg trays to keep your eggs free of contamination. To minimize environmental impact, you can compost all the shipping materials sent with your hatching eggs.
Do NOT clean eggs prior to incubating or hatching. The bloom over the shell helps protect the developing embryo within. We do not sell any egg we would not hatch ourselves.
We see the most success incubating our turkey eggs at 99.5° F at 30% to 40% humidity for the first 25 days and 70% humidity for lockdown. (Turkey eggs incubate for 28 days rather than 21 days like chickens. You can incubate them together, simply start the turkey eggs a week prior to setting your chicken eggs.) You should have your incubator operable and at the proper temperature/humidity prior to placing the eggs inside.
